Guided Crater Lake Walks
Starting with a scenic chairlift ride to 2,020 metres, your experienced local guide will take you on a spectacular 6 hour journey through stunning alpine scenery to Mt Ruapehu's snow-capped peaks at 2,670 metres. Youth is 5-18 years. Minimum age for the crater walk is 8 years old.
* Family includes 2 adults and up to 3 dependent children. All pricing is in NZD and includes GST of 12.5%. Prices are accurate at the time of page update for the 2010 season. Products and/or prices may be subject to change without notice.
Groups travel as fast as the slowest person, stopping often for photos and informative talks by the guide. While the walk is not extreme, a little fitness is helpful. You will have lunch alongside Ruapehu's famous crater lake while learning about its last major erruption.
Groups meet at 9 am at the Vertical store, leaving at 9:30am. During peak periods a later departure time can be arranges and private guided walks are also available on request.
BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL
The following equipment is essential:
- Sturdy tramping boots * (not runners or gumboots)
- Waterproof jacket* and overtrousers*
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
- Warm hat and gloves
- Lunch and refreshments
* These items can be hired from the Vertical retail store at Whakapapa. All other items are available for purchase
